The Difference Between Core and Expansion Decks

Are you curious what the difference is between the Core Doodle Decks and the Expansion Doodle Decks? Here is a quick breakdown on how the decks are categorized and what's included in each one!

What's in a Core Doodle Deck?

Each of the Core Doodle Decks includes 51 unique colorwork charts, 2 cowl patterns, and an instruction card, all wrapped up a custom printed cardboard tuck box.

These core decks are available in seasonal themes, like Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Basic (which is a geometric filler pattern set).

They are great for beginners who don't know where to start because it both gives you a diverse set of charts to play with, and the charts are designed for beginners (i.e. short floats, easy repeats, only 2 colors, etc.).

Because these are basically a full deck of cards, they each include several individual digital pattern chart sets, in order to get up to the 51 Chart standard:

  • Basic Deck includes Basic Doodle (plus additional motifs only in the deck)
  • Spring Deck includes Valentines Doodle and Floral Doodle
  • Summer Deck includes Ocean Doodle and Mountain Doodle
  • Autumn Deck includes Autumn 1, Autumn 2, and Autumn 3 Doodles
  • Winter Deck includes Holiday 1, Holiday 2, and Winter Skies Doodle

What's in the Expansion Doodle Deck?

Each of the Expansion Doodle Decks includes 24 unique colorwork charts, 2 cowl patterns, and an instruction card, all wrapped up a custom printed cardboard tuck box.

New Doodle patterns that come out will be released as Expansion Decks.

Because these are expansions, there are really endless options for themes. You can see some of the examples below:

  • Location-based like Seattle, Portland, or Rhinebeck Doodle
  • Environment-based like Ocean, Mountain, Arctic, or Jungle Doodle
  • Holiday-based like Valentines 2 or Monster Doodle

As I continue to expand the thematic options, you'll see more Doodle Decks!

So where do you start?

I usually recommend that makers start with the Basic Deck + one more thematic option, based on what they fill like knitting. This way they get a bunch of geometric fillers that work great between the more specific motifs.

Because all of the Doodle Card Decks work together, you can really pair any of them together to make some really fun projects!

Try putting some together as sets in your shop, or evening pairing them with yarn kits for added options for customers!
